Shaun Hammond

Gidday, I'm Shaun Hammond a UI/UX Designer

I have over 10 years experience in the videogame industry. I'm based in Dunedin, New Zealand and currently open to new opportunities.

I began my career with New Blood Interactive in 2014. After that, I spent over five years working with RocketWerkz Studios, contributing to a number of projects. Most recently, I’ve had the pleasure of working for nearly three years with my friends at Usual Suspects Studios, where I’ve continued to grow and expand my expertise in UI/UX design, marketing, programming, and other areas of game development.

Below you will see some of the work I've created over the years, including:

  • UI Assets for Layouts I've designed in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and the Implementation of these inside Unreal Engine and Unity.

  • UI/UX Programming inside Unreal using Blueprint.

  • Logos and Branding for companies, games and lore-based brands inside of those games.

  • Marketing material, both for storefronts like Steam and also physical media for events such as PAX and Gamescom.

  • I've also completed projects requiring UI Shaders, Level Design, Lighting, Game Design and Textures for 3D Assets.

Usual Suspects | 2022-2024

It's Only Money was developed by a small team of just five full-time developers, including myself. Because of this, I had the opportunity to be involved in nearly every aspect of the game. During my time with Usual Suspects, I really pushed myself to expand my skills, not only in UI/UX design but also in UMG, materials, and programming with Blueprint in Unreal Engine. I took on the responsibility of creating, implementing, and, for the most part, programming all of the UI from start to finish. This experience allowed me to hone my technical abilities and gain a deeper understanding of the entire development process.

Currently...

Even though I am extremely comfortable working with the Adobe Suite and Unreal Engine, I am currently working on a project in the Godot Engine to deepen my understanding of GDScript and improve my coding skills, particularly in comparison to visual scripting. I'm also using this opportunity to get more familiar with other programs, such as Affinity Designer, Aseprite, DaVinci Resolve, and Ableton. So far this has been a great way for me to expand my toolkit and continue growing as a developer and designer, learning new workflows and enhancing my versatility in different areas of game development.

I'll have some updates on my progress in time on my Bluesky account.
